A witch corset can be worn well after Halloween, so it’s worth looking after. Water rusts the steel bones, so most of the care comes down to keeping moisture out, and the right method depends on the material. Wipe leather with a barely damp microfiber cloth and dry it right away. Genuine leather needs conditioning every few months to stop it cracking, while faux leather doesn’t. PVC cleans with a damp cloth and should be wiped dry straight after. Velvet and brocade are spot clean only, since soaking them ruins the texture and shrinks the fabric. Mesh and cotton can’t be washed either, so spot clean them.

Never machine wash or tumble dry a corset. If one needs more than spot cleaning, use a specialist dry cleaner who works with structured bridal or theatrical garments, and tell them it has steel boning so they can adjust the heat and avoid warping the bones. Wear a tank top or liner underneath to absorb sweat and oil, and leave the corset lining side up for a few hours after wearing. Store it flat in a drawer or drape it by the laces over a hanger, and don’t fold it.
