Corset Sizing Guide - How to Measure, Fit & Choose the Right Corset

Hey there, welcome to Corsets Island ! If you’re new to corsets, don’t sweat it. We’re here to help you figure out the best size, length, and fit, so you can start your corset journey with confidence. Let’s dive in!

1. How to Measure Your Waist

First thing’s first: you’ll need a soft measuring tape. Stand straight, relax (no need to suck in your tummy!), and measure at the smallest part of your waist. If you carry weight a little differently, you can measure about an inch or two above your belly button. For example, my natural waist measures 34 inches.

At Corsets Island, we recommend choosing a corset based on your natural waist measurement. So, if your natural waist is 34 inches, you’d probably be looking at a size XL (For Waist 34”) corset. Here’s why:

Our corsets are designed so when they’re laced up, they’ll be about 4 inches smaller than your natural waist. This means that if my waist is 34 inches, my corset will close at 30 inches (that’s the lacing at the back doing its magic).

2. Getting the Right Fit

Now, if you're new to corsets, don’t feel like you have to go super tight right away. It's all about finding that sweet spot. For example, I can wear this size XL corset a little looser and still feel comfortable, almost like a cute fashion belt.

If you’re waist training, you can definitely consider going a size down. But if you’re wearing it more for fashion, sizing up is totally fine too! The corset will still close, and it’ll look fab while being comfy.

If you're ever unsure about sizing or have specific body shapes in mind, just drop us a message. We love helping out and will help you figure out what size works best.

3. Custom Fit Corsets

Not everyone’s body is the same, and that’s totally okay! If you feel like your body has a bigger difference between your underbust and hips, we can create a custom corset just for you at no extra charge.

If that’s something you’re thinking about, shoot us a message, and we’ll work with you to get the perfect fit. We’re all about making sure you feel amazing in your corset.

4. Measuring Corset Length

Next up, let’s talk about corset length. This is a super important part, especially if you plan to sit while wearing your corset. To measure, use your soft tape and measure from just under your bust down to where your body meets your thighs (this is called the lap crease). For me, that’s 9 inches.

Now, why does this matter? Well, it helps you pick a corset that’s comfortable to wear while sitting. And don’t worry, we’ve got those measurements listed in each corset description to help you out. Every corset has its own unique length, some dip lower at the hips or front, so be sure to check those details when choosing.

5. Corset Styles & Lengths

Here’s the fun part: the styles! Different corsets have different lengths and shapes, and knowing which one fits your body best makes all the difference.

Sloan Corset Belt: This is our shortest corset. It’s great if you love wearing 50s dresses because it cinches your waist and leaves your hips comfy.

Trixie Waspy: This one’s perfect for shorter torsos. It’s only 8 inches long in the front and is super comfy to sit in. Plus, it’s a great corset to start with!

Lily Waspy: It has a diamond shape, so it’s shorter on the sides and longer in the front. I love how it gives that perfect shape while still being comfy.

Alice Underbust: If you want more shaping around your waist and hips, this one’s a bit longer (13 inches at the front). It’s amazing for those who want full coverage but still a great fit.

It all comes down to comfort and what you want the corset to do for your body.

6. Overbust Corsets

Now, overbust corsets are super cool if you want to wear your corset like a top. They come up over your chest, which means you don’t even need a bra! But keep in mind, these are a bit trickier to fit because they affect your bust, waist, and sometimes hips.

For overbust corsets, we strongly recommend sending us your custom measurements. This is totally free, and we’ll make sure your corset fits you like a glove.

What we’ll need:

  • Bust: Measure across your back and around the fullest part of your bust.
  • Waist: As we mentioned earlier, measure your natural waist.
  • Hips: Measure around the widest part of your hips.
  • Length: Measure where you want the corset to sit on your body from the front to the sides.

7. Quick Fit Questions

Should a corset hurt? Nope! It should feel supportive and snug, but definitely not painful.

How long should I wear it in the beginning? Go slow and listen to your body. Start with short sessions and gradually wear it longer.

What if I’m between sizes? No worries! Just message us, and we can help you figure out if a standard size will work or if you need a custom fit.

8. Getting a Custom Fit

If you’re not sure about sizing or need a custom fit, it’s super easy. Just send us your measurements, and we’ll take care of the rest. Plus, it’s completely free! We’re here to make sure your corset fits perfectly and feels amazing.
